All-American Taylor Sander ripped 18 kills Saturday as No. 2 Brigham Young beat the University of Hilo men’s volleyball team for the second straight match, 25-21, 25-21, 24-26, 25-20 in Provo, Utah.

JP Marks led the ‘Bows (0-2, 0-2 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) with 14 kills, and his third and final ace of the match in Game 3 helped UH win its first set of the season.

Sander was again the model of efficiency for the Cougars (2-0, 2-0), hitting .500 to send Hawaii to its 10th straight loss dating back to last season. Ben Patch contributed nine kills and Russ Lavaja had six kills and 10 block assists. BYU hit .350 with 17 blocks.

Nick West posted nine kills for UH, which hit .162.

In the fourth set, three hitting errors put the ‘Bows behind 9-5, and consecutive Sanders kills had BYU on its way with a 17-9 lead.

The Warriors host the Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Invitational, Thursday-Saturday at Stan Sheriff Center. UH will be joined by UCLA, Penn State, and Ohio State.
