The Lyman Museum’s special exhibit “Sasana: The Burma Portfolio,” is now extended for public viewing through March 9.
“Sasana,” meaning acts of kindness, is a collection of large-format black-and-white photographs of Burma’s people, landscape and local culture taken by Dr. Steven Garon, a volunteer with Aloha Medical Mission.
Aloha Medical Mission provides health care services to the underserved peoples in the Pacific, Asia, and here in Hawaii.
Garon has been capturing images of the people and local culture of Burma (Republic of the Union of Myanmar) on his vintage Linhof view camera since 2006. The result is a story of humanity and compassion that is timely and universal in scope.
The nationally accredited and Smithsonian-affiliated Lyman Museum, located at 276 Haili St. in Hilo, is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. For admission rates and additional information, call 935-5021 or visit www.lymanmuseum.org.
