Louise Gomes Day, 100, of Hilo died Dec. 23 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was a retired kitchen worker for the former Hilo Hospital. Services held. Survived by daughters, Doreen Mae Carter of California, Rose Marie (Charles) Rose of Honolulu and Mona Lisa Tallett of Hilo; son, James Milton (Nyla) Day Jr. of Hilo; 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson; nieces and nephews. Coling “Reuben” Jacob Mandaquit, 76, of Kailua-Kona died Jan. 7 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Kahaluu, he worked for numerous hotels and stores in many capacities and was a veteran of the U.S. Army and National Guard. Charles L. “Kale Loke” Rose Jr., 78, of Honolulu died Jan. 15 at The Queen’s Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired Big Island police captain and federal investigator and member of numerous Hawaiian Civic clubs, Hawaii Canoe Racing Association and Hawaii Maoli.
