A late basket by Cal Santa Barbara negated a Vicky Tagalicod jumper and dealt the University of Hawaii another one-point loss.

Nicole Nesbit made a layup with 14 seconds remaining Saturday night as Gauchos edged the Rainbow Wahine 51-50 at Stan Sheriff Center.

Tagalicod, a Hilo High graduate, scored 11 points off the bench for UH (9-10, 5-3), including a jumper that put her team ahead 50-49 with 1:43 remaining. The junior from Pahoa shot 5 of 8.

Kamilah Martin led the way with 14 points, moving into 15th place on the ‘Bows’ all-time scoring list. The junior also ranks third in rebounds after grabbing seven boards.

Kailiawa, a product of Ka’u High School, missed a shot at the buzzer.

Melissa Zornig scored a game-high 15 points the Gauchos (8-11, 4-3), Sweets Underwood added 13 and Kirsten Tilleman Tilleman grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
