AlohaCare is now accepting entries for its 11th annual statewide art contest. Children ages 4-12 are invited to submit a drawing depicting how they stay healthy.
When creating their artwork, entrants should choose from one of the following categories: preventive health (e.g., washing hands, brushing teeth, flu shots), mental health (e.g., reading books, playing board games, doing crossword puzzles), nutrition (e.g., eating fruits and vegetables, drinking lots of water), and physical activities (e.g., swimming, dancing hula, playing kickball).
Drawings should be done in crayon, markers, colored pencils or watercolors on 8 1/2-by-11-inch white paper. The deadline to enter is March 1.
The contest is divided into four categories: ages 4-5, ages 6-7, ages 8-9 and ages 10-12. The first-place winner in each category will receive $100 in cash.
“Each year, we receive more than 3,000 drawings from children throughout Hawaii, showing how they keep healthy,” said John McComas, AlohaCare Chief Executive Officer. “At AlohaCare, three out of five of our QUEST health plan members are children. The goal of our art contest is to encourage children to think about and develop healthy habits that they will carry with them through adulthood. Every year, we receive amazing artwork that sends a strong message to children and adults on what we can do to maintain good health.”
Entries should be mailed to AlohaCare Children’s Art Contest, 1357 Kapiolani Blvd., Suite 1250, Honolulu HI 96814. Entries must be postmarked by March 1. To obtain an entry form, go to www.AlohaCare.org or call 1-800-434-1002.
