Hawaii Electric Light Co. filed on Friday a final request for proposals for expanding geothermal power on the island.

Hawaii Electric Light Co. filed on Friday a final request for proposals for expanding geothermal power on the island.

The RFP was filed with the state Public Utilities Commission, which has to give it final approval.

Once approved, the utility will open the bidding process on providing up to 50 megawatts of additional geothermal power.

Potential bidders will have 60 days to respond. HELCO anticipates making a selection after another 120 days.
