The seedings for the Hawaii High School Athletic Association’s Girls Basketball State Championships were announced Saturday night with Big Island Interscholastic Federation champions Konawaena and Kamehameha-Hawaii earning No. 1 seeds.
The 12-team state Division I and II tournaments will run concurrently Tuesday through Friday this coming week on Oahu.
The D-I top four seeds include No. 1 Konawena, No. 2 Kamehameha-Oahu, No. 3 Leilehua and No. 4 Lahainalua. They draw first-round byes.
BIIF runner-up Hilo plays Roosevelt at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Radford Gym in the first round. Konawaena takes on the Mililani-Kaiser winner at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the McKinley Gym.
Konawaena beat Hilo 54-30 on Saturday night to claim the BIIF title at the Kealakehe Gym.
In D-II, Kamehameha-Hawaii is the No. 1 seed, followed by No. 2 Kauai, No. 3 Hawaii Baptist and No. 4 Kalaheo. BIIF No. 2 Honokaa plays McKinley at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Kalani Gym, followed by BIIF No. 3 Kohala vs. Kailua. Kam-Hawaii takes on the University-St. Francis winner at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Kaimuki Gym.
Kamehameha edged Honokaa 49-48 to capture the D-II title on Saturday night at the Kealakehe Gym.
