Junior Aliyah Pana scored 23 points and Hilo rallied to beat Roosevelt 47-44 on Tuesday night in Honolulu in the first round of the Hawaii High School Athletic Association girls basketball tournament.
The Vikings (12-1), the Big Island Interscholastic Federation runner-up, advance to face third-seeded Leilehua (12-1), the Oahu Interscholastic Association champion, at 7 p.m. today at Radford High School in the Division I quarterfinals.
Freshmen Shalyn Guthier and Ciera Kelii each added six points and freshmen Sharlei Graham-Bernisto and Alexis Pana scored five apiece as Hilo surged ahead after trailing 37-31 entering the third quarter.
Sophomores Tatiana Mariano and Sharice Kawakami each scored six points for the Roughriders (13-2) of the OIA.

Kailua 56, Kohala 43: Junior Kahoa Mikaele scored 15 points as the Surfriders won a Division II first-round game at Kalani.
