HI-PAL spring basketball league

The Hawaii Police Activities League is adding a division for students in grades 4-6 to go along with the intermediate division (grades 7-8) for its boys and girls spring basketball league.

All participants must compete for the schools they attend — ranging from Hamakua to Puna — and only will be allowed to play in one division.

League will start March 5 and end May 21, with games played on Tuesday nights at Papaikou Gym and Friday night at Andrews Gym.

A coaches’ meeting will be held before the start of the league and a schedule will be provided.

HGEA golf tournament March 9

The Hawaii Government Employees Association will hold a golf tournament to benefit the Charles R. Kendall Scholarship and Education Fund, which provides educational benefits to HGEA members and their immediate families.

The tournament will take place March 9 at Hilo Municipal Golf Course. Format is a three-man modified scramble, with check-in at 6 a.m. and a shotgun start at 7 a.m.

Early-bird registration by Friday is $75 per person. After Friday, registration is $80 per person ($240 per team).

The Piopio Bears Athletic Association is holding registration for Mustang teams for boys and girls ages 9-10.

Warriors-Corsairs in AJA play

The AJA Memorial Baseball League season continues at 10 a.m. today when the defending champion Warriors play the Corsairs at Wong Stadium.

Waiakea seeking football coach

Waiakea High School is seeking applications for a head football coach.

Applications can be picked up from the school office Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and the deadline to apply is Thursday.

Honokaa baseball golf benefit today

A golf tournament to raise funds for Honokaa High School baseball is set for noon today at Makalei Golf Club.

The registration fee is $120 per player, and it will include green/cart fee, practice range, shirt, heavy pupus, awards and tournament prizes. There will also be par 3 contests and a hole-in-one contest.
