Oregon tagged Quintin Torres-Costa with a loss in his University of Hawaii debut.
Ryon Healy connected for three doubles and Ryan Hambright chased Torres-Costa with a run-scoring single in the fifth inning Saturday night as the Ducks beat the Warriors 5-4 at Les Murakami Stadium in Honolulu.
Pitching on the same field where he starred in leading Waiakea to an HHSAA Division I title last May, Torres-Costa took his first loss since before his senior year of high school. In 4 2/3 innings, the left-hander allowed five runs and five hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
Tommy Thorpe worked five innings and allowed seven hits and a run to get the victory for Oregon, which has won the first two games of the season-opening series.
Healy doubled his first two times up against Torres-Costa, scoring in the first inning and driving in a run in the third. In the fifth, Torres-Costa intentionally walked Healy before departing with his team trailing 5-1. Left fielder Brett Thomas also doubled in a run off the freshman in the fifth.
Catcher Tyler Young hit a two-run double for Hawaii in the bottom of the sixth. Hawaii banged out 12 hits but left 10 runners on base.
First baseman Jerry Kleman was 3 for 4, Young and center fielder Kalei Hanawahine were each 2 for 4 and designated hitter Trevor Podratz and second baseman Andre Real both finished 2 for 5.
Podratz drove in a run on a groundout in the bottom of the ninth, but Jimmie Sherfy, the last of five Ducks pitchers, stranded the potential tying run at third to get the save.
Thorpe walked two and struck out four.
