Howard Dicus will be the guest speaker at the Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce luncheon on Friday, March 22, to honor the Hawaii Island winners of this year’s Small Business Administration awards. The awards ceremony will be held in conjunction with the Chamber’s general membership meeting in the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel Moku’ola Room.

Dicus is the business reporter and “chief explainer” for HawaiiNewsNow, the joint news operation of KGMB and KHNL TV.
The Chamber will recognize the following Hawaii Island winners: State of Hawaii Entrepreneurial Success of the Year award, Allan Ikawa of Big Island Candies in Hilo; County of Hawaii Small Business Person of the Year, to John and Nancy Edney of Tropical Dreams Ice Cream, Waimea; County of Hawaii Small Business Exporter of the Year, Greg Colden of Kona Natural Soap Co., Kailua-Kona; County of Hawaii Young Entrepreneur of the Year, William Bierman of Omega Computers, Kailua-Kona; County of Hawaii Family Owned Small Business of the Year, Colin Nakagawa of The Seaside Restaurant, Hilo; County of Hawaii Minority Small Business Champion of the Year, Kari Waldhaus of The Entrepreneur’s Source, Honokaa; Home Based Business Champion of the Year, Joan and Warren Chong of LegalShield, dba Chong Enterprises, Kailua-Kona; and Women in Business Champion of the Year, Laura K. Kinoshita of Kinoshita Communications LLC on the Kohala Coast.

The event begins at 11:30 a.m. and is open to the public. Registration and payment must be received by March 15. Cost is $30 for HICC members, $35 for nonmembers. Seating is limited.
