Sophie Frances Olive Kalanikini Piko, 84, of Kailua-Kona died Feb. 26 at the Kona Community Hospital in Kealakekua. Born in Honolulu, she was a catholic and retired Catechism instructor, worked as a counselor in the state Employment Office and was a member of the Hawaii Government Employees Association and Kalihi Palama Cultural Arts on Oahu. Viewing at 2 p.m. March 14 at A Hui Hou Crematory & Funeral Home in Kailua-Kona. Friends may call at 9 a.m. Friday, March 15, for an 11 a.m. Mass at St. John’s The Baptist Catholic Church, 2324 Omilo Lane in Honolulu. Burial to follow at 2 p.m. Survived by sons, Joseph N. Piko III of Kailua-Kona and Paul K. Piko of Oahu; daughters, Laida Kalili Piko of Maui, Deedee Furtado of Kailua-Kona and Maureen (Nani Duke) Giron of Kailua-Kona; brother, Samuel (Bertha) Nahoopii Jr. of Oahu; sisters, Gladys Hoe and Maryanne Dudoit, both of Oahu; 26 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
