Day this weekend
Hawaii Junior Golf Day is scheduled for Saturday at various locations across the state, including Hilo Municipal Golf Course, Waikoloa Village Golf Course and the Makalei Golf Course.
The free event is for beginner junior golfers, and registration begins at 8 and the program runs from 9-11 a.m.
Healthy snacks and refreshments will be available

KGMA hunting
permits available
The Department of Land and Natural Resources will grant muzzleloader animal control permits for feral goats and feral sheep at Kaohe Game Management Area through April 14.
Kaohe Game Management Area is an archery unit for game mammals with no bag limit for sheep and goats. To increase public harvest efficiency of feral goats and sheep, DLNR’s Division of Forestry and Wildlife is allowing the use of muzzleloaders for licensed hunters by permit.
Permits will be available at the Kilohana check station for muzzleloader for feral goats and sheep with no bag limit, but every effort must be made to retrieve and harvest animals within designated areas.
Hunters must use every safety precaution in using muzzleloaders. Blaze orange is required for all hunters in Kaohe GMA, including archery hunters.
DLNR is increasing hunter participation in Kaohe GMA to protect Palila Critical Habitat from overgrazing of mamane trees from feral goats and sheep. Further information may be obtained by contacting the DOFAW offices in Hilo at 974-4221 or in Waimea at 887-6063.
Senior golf tourney
is slated for May 10
The Big Island Senior Golf Tournament will be held May 10 at Waikoloa Beach Resort’s Kings’ Course.
Open to Big Island residents 55 and older, the fee is $90 and slots are available to the first 140 entrants.
Entry forms for the Department of Parks and Recreation event will be available March 4 at Hilo Kamana Senior Center, Keaau Community Center, the West Hawaii special programs office, and by appointment at the Na‘alehu and Waimea offices.
The deadline to apply is April 25, and forms and payment will only be accepted at East and West Hawaii elderly recreation offices.
The tournament will be 18 holes with an established handicap index as of March ( maximum handicap is 40). Golfers will be divided into four flights: men and women aged 55-64, and men and women aged 65 and over.
Round-trip transportation from Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo will be available for $6 per person.

United Way golf
benefit March 18
The 11th annual Luck of the Irish Golf Tournament, a benefit for the Hawaii Island United Way, will be held March 18 at the Club at Hokulia.
The event starts with a pre-tournament gala from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at Sheraton Kona Resort and Spa at Keauhou Bay. Tickets are $50. Tournament registration starts at 8 a.m. March 18 at Hokulia with 10 a.m. shotgun start
