The family-friendly fundraising event will include a performance by Hui Okinawa Kobudo Taiko drum, singer Mark Yamanaka, food booth, and silent auction with prizes donated by local businesses and artists.

All proceeds will go to Japanese organizations, including Miyagi Prefecture Health and Welfare Department Childcare Support Division, Iwate Learning Hope financial aid of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami orphans, and Japan-American Society of Hawaii.

Lilikoi festival is set for Nov. 2

The folks at Rainbow Friends Animal Sanctuary and The Center for Spiritual Living of East Hawaii invite the community to share a love of lilikoi — aka passion fruit — with the world via a fall Lilikoi Cookbook and Festival on Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Hawaiian Paradise Park Activity Center in Keaau.

The benefit for the two nonprofit organizations will feature a cooking contest, celebrity chef demonstrations, vendors, educational talks, entertainment and sales of the cookbook featuring recipes from the community.

“We invite you to submit your favorite lilikoi recipes,” said a spokesman for the coordinating committee.

To submit a recipe, please visit www.lilikoifestival.com or send a self-addressed stamped envelope for the submission form to: HC3, Box 13104, Keaau, HI 96749. For more information, please call 966-7372. Deadline for submissions to the cookbook is April 1.
