Gilbert Thomas Rosa, 76, of Hilo died March 6 at Hospice of Hilo’s Pohai Malama Facility. Born in Hilo, he was a retired mechanic technician for the former Hilo Motors, member of American Legion Post No. 3, Big Island National Guard Retirees Association and ILWU Bowling League. Visitation 6–9 p.m. Tuesday, March 19 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Wake service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation again 9-10 a.m. Wednesday, March 20 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo. Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire; no flowers. Survived by wife, Lorna Rosa of Hilo; sons, Raymond Rosa and Thomas Rosa of Honolulu; daughters, Lorilei (Randall) Ching of Waimea and Karen (Werner) Zindric of Kalopa; brother, Charles (Joyce) Rosa of Hilo; sisters, Lucille Foster of California, Rita (Manuel) Sarme, Shirley (Roy) Legaspi and Dorothy Rosa of Hilo; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Frank Dean Veltri, 63, of Kailua-Kona, died March 12 at home. Born in Stockton, Calif., he was a retired youth counselor. Services held. Robert Louis “Ah Choi” Wong, 76, of Hawi died Friday, March 1, at home. Born in Mountain View, he was a retired flight catering truck driver for Mauna Kea Beach Hotel in Kona. He also was a member of the Hawi Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation Saturday at the Hawi Sacred Heart Catholic Church, from 8-10 a.m.; Memorial Mass at 10 a.m. Casual attire; urn burial at the Hawi Catholic Cemetery. Survived by wife, Janie Leinaala Kapeliela Wong of Hawi; daughter, Jennifer (Howard) Wong Hise of Chantilly, Va.; one grandson, Tyler Mokana Hise of Chantilly, Virginia; sisters, Alice May Wong of Hilo and Maile (Richard) Batalome of Portland, Ore.; brother, Lawrence (Gail) Wong of Honolulu; brothers-in-law, Val Ah Loy and Herbert De Silva of Honolulu; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
