Herbert Hiroshi Okano, 89, of Keauhou died March 13 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Honalo, he was a retired high school teacher and counselor, coffee and mac nut farmer, World War II veteran of the 100th Battalion and 442nd Regimental Combat Team, member of Kona Lions Club, Kona Daifukuji Soto Mission, Yamaguchi Kenjin Kai, Keauhou Kumiai and Disabled American Veterans and volunteer for the Democratic Party.
