Firefighters in the Pahoa district received the alarm at 5:18 a.m., and arrived at 5:28 a.m. to find the victim sitting on the shoulder of the road with stab wounds to his or her abdomen and wrist.

The patient was treated and transported “awake and verbally responsive” to Hilo Medical Center, according to a report.

The cause of the wounds was classified as “assault with a knife,” but no further information was made available on Sunday. A call to the fire department was not returned as of press time.
