James Kaheakamana’ookaleookalani Beckley, 74, of Hilo died Saturday, March 9, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Mauna’ala, The Royal Mausoleum, Nuuanu, Oahu, he was a former teacher and storyteller, among various other jobs. He also served as King Kamehameha Celebration Commissioner for the Island of Hawaii, president and chairman, Ahuena Heiau Inc., and was a member of the Prince David Kawananakoa Civic Club, the Kona Hawaiian Civic Club, Lauhala O Kona, and was parade chairman for the Gatorade Ironman-Triathlon Races. Visitation from 8-11 a.m. Saturday at the Hilo Stake Center, 1373 Kilauea Ave.; Funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Additional services to be held on Oahu. Visitation to be held from 6-9 p.m. Monday, Apr. 1, at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary; Service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9-10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Apr. 2, at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary; Service at 10:30 a.m.; Burial to follow at noon at Valley of the Temples Memorial Park. Aloha attire, no flowers. Survived by spouse, Theresa Kalama Beckley; sibling Francis Ohelo; five step-children and spouses; 24 grandchildren; and many uncles, aunties, and cousins. Kai Kunitomo, 20, of Honolulu and Kona died March 18 at Queen’s Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a student at Honolulu Community College. Visitation from 3-5 p.m. Thursday, March 28, at Kona Hongwanji; Memorial service at 5 p.m. Casual attire, no flowers. Survived by father, Bryan Kunitomo of Kona; mother, Beverly (Bimo) Akiona of Kona; brothers, Kiley (Miho) Nakagawa of Kona, Pono Kunitomo of Kona; sister, Mia Nakagawa of Honolulu; paternal grandparents, Stanley and Gladys Kunitomo of Kona; maternal grandmother, Patsy Adachi of Hilo.
