Chalk up two more wins for undefeated Kamehameha in the pool, but Hawaii Prep stayed right on its heels with a pair of victories in Big Island Interscholastic Federation water polo Saturday in Waimea.
Sydney Plunkett notched her second seven-goal game this season in the Warriors’ 19-12 victory against Waiakea, then the senior added four as Kamehameha beat Hilo 24-3.
The Ka Makani (5-1) got nine goals apiece from Anu Nihipali and Bhillie Luciani in their two wins, 18-4 over Konawaena and a 12-8 decision against Kealakehe.
In the best single-game output of the day, Akemi King found the net nine times as Waiakea beat Hilo 26-4.
In another match, Kealakehe bested Konawaena 17-4 behind four goals from Sarah Somsanguansit.
Kamehameha 19, Waiakea 12: With her big game, Plunkett has scored a league-high 25 goals for Kamehameha (6-0), which is seeking its fourth consecutive undefeated BIIF season.
Cassidy Fratinardo found the net four times, Acacia Trusdell contributed a hat trick, Paula Imoto scored twice and Ester Kerr, Michelle Fratinardo and Hali’a Nahale-a had a goal apiece.
Jillian Hughes led Waiakea (3-3) with six goals, King chipped in with two, and Kirsten Nakamura, Kirstie Flores-Oishi, Mary Economy and Taislynn Ida each had one.
Kamehameha 24, Hilo 3: Trusdell scored four times to match Plunkett’s output, and Nahale-a, Cassidy Fratinardo and Katelynn Kubo compiled hat tricks.
Alyssa Pelanca chipped in with two scores, and Michelle Fratinardo, Paula Imoto, Chloe Martins-Keliihoomalu, Kaelynne Manoha and Pua Wong each scored once.
Ashleigh Kahawaiolaa-Daffron scored three times for the Vikings (1-5).
Nahale-a has notched at least three goals in four games this season, scoring 16 times.
Hawaii Prep 18, Konawaena 4:Nihipali (five goals) and Luciani (four) got help from Hannah Parkin (three), Jellian Cuartero (two), Seychelle Francis (two), Leilani Bostock (one) and Amanda Stark (one).
Kaulana Ruedy led the Wildcats (0-6) with two goals, while Katie Andrade and Mahealani Yoshida scored a goal apiece.
Hawaii Prep 12, Kealakehe 8: Luciani (five goals) and Nihipali (four) led the way, and Lizzie Jim, Hannah Twigg-Smith and Cuartero also had goals.
Naomi Tomlinson’s hat trick paced the Waveriders (3-3), Marissa Bryant-Manago and Mehana Pilago each scored twice and Madeline Foo added a goal.
Waiakea 26, Hilo 4: King carried the load with nine goals, and Hughes, Nakamura and Flores-Oishi finished with hat tricks. Jeannie Rosa and Kasey Kawakami each score twice, while Jolyn Takeya-Whitney, Katrina Ombac, Zoey Chang and Taislynn Ida had a goal apiece.
Alana Flaherty led Hilo with a hat trick and Kaylyn Ells-Hookano also scored.
Kealakehe 17, Konawaena 4: Riley Carson and Pilago backed Somsanguansit’s four-goal effort with hat tricks. Hannah Hewitt and Tomlinson each scored two goals, and the Waveriders also got goals from Foo, Maile McCormack and Aimee Caldwell.
Ruedy (three goals) and Andrade powered the Wildcats.
