Gerald “Jerry” “Kele” Victor DeOreo, 76, of Hilo died March 12 in Wimauma, Fla. Born in Cleveland, he was retired from United Airlines, assistant conductor of the former Honolulu Symphony, helped Hawaii Public Radio go on the air, played classical music on a “pirate” FM station in Hilo, cultivated bananas and helped found the Internet Yahoo! group Big Island Self-Sufficiency. Mitsugi Inaba, 89, Holualoa died March 27 at Kona Community Hospital.
