University of Hawaii senior left-hander Kaia Parnaby continues to put up stellar numbers.
Parnaby pitched a five-hit shutout, and Leisha Liilii and Kayla Wartner both homered Friday night as the Rainbow Wahine thumped Cal Riverside 16-0 for their ninth straight victory.
Liilii, who’s ninth home run of the season came with two aboard in the fourth inning, finished 2 for 4 with four RBIs for Hawaii (29-7 overall, 7-0 Big West).
Wartner, who drove in two runs, and Brynne Buchanan both went 3 for 3, while Jazmine Zamora and Sharla Kleibenstein had three RBIs apiece. Keiki Carlos was 2 for 4, including an RBI single during an eventful first inning.
Parnaby (26-3) struck out nine and walked one, lowering her ERA with 1.15 in her 27th compete game of the season and 10th shutout. She’s struck out 259 on the season, the third-best total for a UH pitcher and her 29 career shutouts are fourth-best.
Wartner’s sixth home run of the season started the scoring in the first as Hawaii sent 13 batters to the plate and scored eight runs. Zamora collected a two-run single, Kleibenstein brought in two runs with a hit and Wartner was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in another run.
Cal Riverside starting pitcher Sophie Slagle lasted 1 2/3 innings in taking the loss for the Highlanders (15-22, 0-7). She gave up five runs on five hits, striking out two and walking three.
Sand volleyball
Hawaii got wins from its nos. 2-5 flights to beat Irvine Valley 4-1.
The lone loss for the Rainbow Wahine (4-4) in Irvine, Calif, came from top duo Jane Croson and Ashley Kastl, who fell in three sets to Allie Cook and Annie Mitchem of the Lasers (4-4).
Croson and Kastl were dumped in straight sets as Hawaii was swept by No. 2 Long Beach State (5-0) in another matchup.

Senior Amarens Genee scored five goals, one off her career high, and Paula Chillida Esforzado added four as Hawaii kicked off its Northern California road trip with a 14-12 victory against Cal Davis.
Monika Eggens and Danielle Lewis each scored twice for the Rainbow Wahine (14-9 Big West, 4-1) —which led 9-4 at halftime and opened up a seven-goal advantage in the third period — and Zoe Respondek, also scored. Amy Carlson made six saves.
Kathryn Bailey, Carmen Eggert and Jessican Dunn netted hat tricks for the Aggies (12-15, 0-6), who fell to UH for the second times this season.
