Former Waiakea High standout Tyler Yonemori won a gold medal at the USA Judo Youth and Scholastic Nationals in March in Miami.
Yonemori, a Hawaii High School Athletic Association and Big Island Interscholastic Federation champion with the Warriors who has been training under former U.S. Olympic medalist Jimmy Pedro, went 5-0 in the 66-kilogram division and qualified for the junior world championships, Oct. 24-27 in Slovenia.
