Police reported the escape of a 21-year-old woman from Hale Nani Correctional Facility late Sunday morning.
Shaylyn Araw, described as 5 feet three inches tall, 110 pounds, with shoulder-length brown hair, brown eyes and tan complexion, reportedly scaled a 15- to 20-foot fence fence to escape the facility around 7:30 a.m.
She was last seen wearing blue shorts with “HCC” printed on the back and a white t-shirt with “HCC Inmate” printed on the back.
Araw has been arrested at least twice in recent months on burglary and theft charges. Most recently, she and a Pepeʻekeo man were arrested for burglary and other offenses on March 18 in connection with several break-ins during the month of January in the Pepeʻekeo and Nīnole areas.
Araw was charged with two counts of first-degree burglary, second-degree theft, third-degree theft and fourth-degree theft. Her bail was set at $12,750. An alleged accomplice, Robert Navor, 22, was arrested and charged with burglary, theft, forgery, and unauthorized possession of confidential information. His bail was set at $13,750.
Araw also was arrested July 5, 2012, in the Paukaʻa area of Hilo in connection with a reported burglary on Maukaloa Street in Pepeʻekeo, and later charged with attempted first-degree burglary.
