Waiakeawaena Elementary School is seeking nominations to fill two seats on its School Community Council for the 2013 to 2015 school years.
The Waiakeawaena SCC is an advisory panel able to make suggestions for school improvement. The two seats open are for a parent member and for a community member. Parents of current Waiakeawaena students may nominate themselves to run for the parent position. Parents of current Waiakeawaena students may nominate other Waiakeawaena parents to run for the position of parent member, after obtaining the fellow parents’ permission.
Parents of current Waiakeawaena students may nominate community members who live in the school’s geographical area and who want to run as community members. Local business owners who live in the school’s geographical area are welcome to run for the position after obtaining a nomination from a Waiakeawaena parent.
“Being part of the Waiakeawaena School Community Council is a rewarding experience. Members provide feedback to the school’s leadership about
student success rates, the academic and financial plan, and other school matters,” said Waiakeawaena SCC Chair Mara Matsumura, a teacher at the school. “Being an SCC member enables parents to be more involved.
“Nominees need to expect that the SCC will meet once a month in the afternoons or early evenings. Elected members’ input is valued,” Matsumura said.
Waiakeawaena School’s parents may request nomination forms by calling 981-7200, ext. 243. The forms are due back at the school’s office, to the attention of Matsumura, by May 13.
