Hui Pono Holoholona invites everyone to its annual Spay Day Rally from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, at the Mooheau Park bandstand in downtown Hilo.
There will be free lucky-number drawings, a silent auction fundraiser to benefit the nonprofit organization and fun and informative booths such as “Ask a Veterinarian.” Enjoy music by Dennis & Christy Soares, other entertainment and assorted activities.
“Please come and show your support for a truly low-cost/no-cost spay/neuter program for our island’s dogs and cats,” said Frannie Pueo, founder of the active East Hawaii-based group. For more information, visit the website www.hphhawaii.org.
Silent auction items will include certificates for a helicopter tour, a Dolphin Quest four-person VIP package, restaurant meals, pet items and many more.
If you would like to donate silent auction items, please contact 968-8279 or email webmistress@hphhawaii.org.
“Mahalo for your support,” said Pueo. “Our community is in crisis, with unwanted litter births of dogs and cats. Many are abandoned to starve, are killed on our highways, or euthanized at shelters — over 1,000 each month.
“This is an unnecessary tragedy, and preventable, had a truly low-cost/no-cost spay and neuter program been made available to all,” she said. “Hui Pono Holoholona walks the talk. As of this date, 3,000 animals have benefited from our spay/neuter clinics.
That’s 3,000 less animals being killed, preventing the future birth of millions of unwanted kittens/puppies.
“Tomorrow’s count is up to you,” said Pueo. “Please spay and neuter your pets.”
Volunteers also are invited to help in staging the Spay Day Rally. If you are interested, please call or email the contacts above.
