Police traffic investigators are renewing their request for information about the identity of the driver of a car involved in a hit-and-run motor vehicle/pedestrian crash in Kealakekua on Feb. 28.

Police traffic investigators are renewing their request for information about the identity of the driver of a car involved in a hit-and-run motor vehicle/pedestrian crash in Kealakekua on Feb. 28.

The crash crash on Hawaii Belt Road (Highway 11) and Hokukano Road killed the pedestrian, 71-year-old Francisco Asuncion of Kealakekua.

Police are also looking for the car, a dark-colored Nissan sedan. The vehicle should have had damage to the front bumper, the hood and possibly the windshield.

Traffic Enforcement Unit officers initiated a negligent homicide and accident involving death or serious bodily injury cases.

Police ask that anyone with information about the location of the car or the identity of the driver call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000. All Crime Stoppers information is kept confidential.
