Honokaa Gym is offering its Fourth Quarter Program Guide for activities during the months of April, May and June. Available are instructional ping pong and instructional billiards for ages 12-14 and night play for both ping pong and billiards for 12 and up. Or come and participate in physical fitness via a 45-minute walk which is open to all ages.

There is an assortment of arts and crafts projects; call for the registration times for beaded angel/origami boxes, Mother’s Day card craft, or “ribbit” note cards. Call the gym between noon and 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, or 7:45 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Friday at 775-7505.
There are is also a Summer Fun Program at the gym from June 10 to July 19. It will be Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and costs $100 per child. This program is for K-6 and will include a spectrum of arts/crafts, indoor/outdoor games, sport, music, dance, nature exploration, swimming, special events and excursions. Did you know? There is a parent-child interactive play and learn group in Honokaa at the North Hawaii Education and Research Center, NHERC, called Baby Steps to Stronger Big Island families. This group meets on Tuesdays. The goal of this Play and Learn Group is to provide an opportunity for children not attending preschool to: play amongst other children; participate in new play experiences’; [practice social and cooperative skills; offer parents the opportunity to partner with their child in play, to strengthen the bond with their child, and to network with other parents and caregivers.
The Baby STEPS Play and Learn Group is for children under 5 years of age who normally do not have an opportunity to regularly attend preschool. No fees are required however registration is preferred in advance to ensure availability of space, materials and snacks. A parent/caregiver must accompany children at all times.

The Hawaii Island Early Childhood Conference is coming on April 19-20 at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort and Spa. The Early Childhood Action Strategy is on April 19 from 1:30-4:30 p.m. at the Lehua Ballroom III. The conference is from 6 to 9 p.m. April 19 and continues on April 20 from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Keynote speaker is Dr. Steven Choy. While it takes a village to raise a child, it takes our children to make a healthy world. This presentation will focus on how we can develop healthy brains through our relationships with our children in order to help them cope with the ever changing world.

For the second year in a row, Paauilo School students will be joining students from 15 other high schools from all over Hawaii in the International Student Summer Camp in Beijing, China. This program is hosted by the Beijing International Education Exchange and organized the Pacific and Asian Affairs Council and will be taking place from July 11-21. This 10-day cultural exchange will allow students to experience the language, culture, and food at its best! Students will interact with Chinese students to learn the language and culture and visit sites such as the Great Wall of China and the Forbidden City. Furthermore, students will be exposed to different cultures and perspectives, gain first-hand understanding of current issues affecting the country or regions to be visited, and serve as cultural ambassadors for Hawaii and the United States.

The Agribusiness Incubator Program at the University of Hawaii at Manoa is offering its Value Added Agricultural Product Manufacturing Grant again in 2013. Approximately $27,000 will be awarded to one or more applicants for the purchase of equipment and/or services detailed in submitted proposals. Hawaii-based companies that manufacture, or intend to manufacture, products containing Hawaii-grown agricultural products are eligible. May 3 is the deadline to apply.
