The Orchid Isle Orchestra will present a concert celebrating dance music at 4 p.m. on April 28 at the East Hawaii Cultural Center in Hilo.
String students will start the concert with ensemble music featuring violin, cello, viola and piano.
The program continues with music played by the Orchid Isle Orchestra, which combines talent from four Hawaii Island teaching studios with players from our community.
The program includes international dance music from Baroque to contemporary times: a gavotte, minuet, rigadoon, waltz, Mexican hat dance (complete with footwork by the cello section), “Pavane for a Dead Princess” by Maurice Ravel; a basse-danse, another pavane and sword dance from Peter Warlock’s “Capriol Suite,” and a string arrangement of “Viva La Vida” by Coldplay.
The public is invited to this free concert.
