The Akaka Falls Lions Club, in partnership with The Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation Inc. is seeking a community service provider wishing to serve the needy and poor citizens of East Hawaii with a grant amount of $10,000. Part of this grant includes community service club project completed by the Akaka Falls Club.
For the past four years this Lion’ Club has completed four of these projects, one at the Children’s Justice Center and this past October a project was done for the Easter Seals Hilo Office. These organizations received a $10,000 check from Weinberg Foundation and 100 hours of work from the Akaka Falls Lions Club completing a sweat-equity project.
As facilitators of this grant award, the Akaka Falls Lions Club wishes to solicit a grant to any interested 501(c)3 organizations, whose mission is serving those less fortunate and residing in the geographic boundaries from Ookala to Hilo (including and up to Haihai St.)
The Akaka Lions are in search of worthy projects within these geographic boundaries to meet our Lions International Mission, “We Serve.” We are looking to join with a selected organization to serve target populations encountering hardships here in East Hawaii,” said Ben Cockett, chairman of this project. “As an added bonus of this partnership — an additional benefit to your $10,000 award, will be 100 community service hours donated to your organization by members of the Akaka Falls Lions Club.”
The Lions are particularly interested in supporting initiatives that address the following social concerns: 1) vision and/or hearing assistance; 2) prevention of homelessness; 3) health-related ailment/disease prevention 4) domestic violence awareness and prevention; and 5) mental health support.
If you are interested, please contact Cockett at 443-7711 or Nate Chang at 895-1390 and an application form will be sent to you.
Deadline for the application to be returned is June 30.
