Andrew Paisley and Ciera Min got off to scorching starts Sunday at Hualalai, taking sizeable leads after the first round of the Big Island Interscholastic Federation golf championships.
Paisley, a Hawaii Prep senior looking to finally break through after finishing BIIF runner-up the past three seasons, fired a 67 and was six shots clear of Kealakehe’s Steve Kim.
Min, a Waiakea senior, carded a 69 and led by as five shots as she tries to defend her title.
Just like the regular season, Warriors golfers separated from the pack. Shaina Mizusawa, the 2011 winner, shot a 74 and Andi Igawa was another two shots back.
The second round tees off 11 a.m. Tuesday at The Club at Hokulia, and the final round is Thursday at Mauna Kea.
Paisley was a two-time winner during the regular season, as was Hilo Davin Yagi, who was in third place after a 75.
Konawaena’s Hoeueu Greenwell (77) and Hilo Liam Tsue (77) rounded out the top five.
