Hawaii Prep’s Andrew Paisley and Waiakea’s Ciera Min have plenty of room for error. Both senior golfers continued to pull away from the field at the Big Island Interscholastic Federation championships.
Paisley fired an even-par 72 on Tuesday at The Club of Hokulia to increase his lead to 10 strokes in what had figured to be a competitive boys field after a regular season that was marked by parity.
Instead, Paisley is separating from the pack.
He opened with a 67 on Sunday at Hualalai and was at 139 after two rounds, and the three-time BIIF runner-up can secure the title when the final round shifts to Mauna Kea Golf Course on Thursday.
Hilo’s Davin Yagi carded a 74 to net the second-best score of the day and moved into a second-place tie with Kealakehe’s Steve Kim (76). No other golfer was within 22 strokes of Paisley.
Min’s lead was even bigger.
The reigning BIIF champion started a bit sluggish with a 40 on the front nine, but she recovered to turn in a 76 that left her 12 shots in front of teammate Shaina Mizusawa (83). The Warriors’ Andi Igawa shot 83 as well and was another two shots back in third.
