Manuel “Buddy” Martins, Jr., 90, of Pahoa died Sunday at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honomu, he was a retired foreman with the former Margolis Garment Factory and was a truck driver for the former Flintkote Co., Canec Division. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran; he served with the 4342nd Quartermaster Service Company and later with the Hawaii Army National Guard in the 230th Engineer Company of the 299th Regimental Combat Team. He was also a member of New Hope Christian Fellowship in Hilo and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Pahoa Post. Friends may call from 5 p.m.-9 p.m. Monday at the Dodo Mortuary chapel for a funeral service that begins at 7 p.m. Friends may also call at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 for graveside committal services.
