SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, Hawaii (AP) — The Army is activating a new training facility at Schofield Barracks that will develop leaders and service members with critical thinking skills.
On Wednesday, soldiers demonstrated repelling, hand to hand combat and a simulated small-unit raid as the Army opened the Lightning Academy.
All branches of the military and other government agencies like the police and FBI may use the Lightning Academy facility. The Army says U.S. Army Pacific partner nations will also be welcome.
The Army says classes with military representatives from other countries will help the U.S. and its partners work better together. The classes are designed to increase international cooperation and teamwork on a small unit level.
About 3,600 students will be able to train at the center if each class is filled to maximum capacity.
