A 66-year-old man was injured Wednesday morning in an industrial accident in Kailua-Kona.

The E.M. Rivera and Sons worker suffered facial trauma and difficulty breathing when the wall of an 8-foot-deep utility trench along Kaiminani Drive caved in on him at about 10 a.m., according to a written Fire Department statement.

Fire Battalion Chief Reuben Chun said Wednesday evening that the man was hospitalized with “critical-type injuries.”
