PHOENIX (AP) — The prosecutor in Jodi Arias’ murder trial has concluded closing arguments in a case that has dragged on for four months with sensational tales of sex, lies and a bloody killing.

Prosecutor Juan Martinez told jurors on Thursday that Arias is a manipulative liar who deserves to be punished for planning and carrying out a brutal murder on her one-time boyfriend.

Arias is charged with first-degree murder in the 2008 stabbing and shooting death of Travis Alexander in his suburban Phoenix home. Authorities say she planned the attack in a jealous rage. Arias initially denied involvement. She now says it was self-defense.

If convicted of first-degree murder, she faces a potential a death sentence or life in prison.
