HONOLULU (AP) — The Coast Guard says a sailing vessel that wasn’t heard from for more than a day has been located about 500 miles northeast of Honolulu.
The Coast Guard was contacted Sunday morning by the crew aboard a Panamanian-flagged cargo vessel, who said that they had located the Siesta and the 44-foot vessel was in no distress.
The crew of the Siesta set sail from Honolulu Thursday. It was heading to Long Beach, Calif. and had planned to be contact with friends every 12 hours.
The Coast Guard put out a marine broadcast early Saturday after the boat’s four sailors stopped communicating. The Siesta crew reported a malfunction in their satellite phone as the reason for the loss of communications.
The crew intends to continue on to California.
