University of Hawaii president says she’ll retire
HONOLULU (AP) — The University of Hawaii says President M.R.C. Greenwood will retire in September for personal, health and family reasons.
The university said in a statement Monday the Board of Regents will discuss plans to replace her in coming months.
Greenwood has been in office for four years after taking over in August 2009.
The university says she plans to take unpaid leave and then return to a tenured faculty position at the university after that.
Greenwood told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser her retirement isn’t related to the athletic department’s botched attempt to hold a fundraiser concert headlined by Stevie Wonder.
State lawmakers criticized how Greenwood responded when it became clear the university was scammed out of a $200,000 deposit for the concert.
