The 2013 Hawaii State Performance-Based Assessments were held on April 24-25 at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel on Oahu. The marketing plan performance assessments are under a program developed jointly by the state Department of Education and the Pacific Asian Center for Entrepreneurship (PACE) in the Shidler College of Business at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

The marketing plan performance assessments are under a program developed jointly by the state Department of Education and the Pacific Asian Center for Entrepreneurship (PACE) in the Shidler College of Business at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

Four of five state finalist teams were from the Big Island, with Hilo High and Waiakea High Business students presenting their marketing plans to a panel of business professionals. A written assessment was taken online earlier in the school year.

In this statewide competition, the following Big Island students earned awards:

— Marketing written exam: Shonn Hironaga, first place;

— Marketing Plan Division winners and finalists: Cody Hamane and Jordon Kamimura, Ku‘u I ka Nu‘u (Crossfit Big Island); Kundalini Nicholson-Walker, Pua Nakamura Jones, Sha Pagan, Fashion Associates (The Bontique); Aliyah Pana and Amber Vaughn, AA Associates (Double A Expressions); Shonn Hironaga and Kaylan Young, Team 20/20 (Big Island Optical, and

— Marketing Plan overall results: Cody Hamane and Jordon Kamimura, second place and $600 cash prize; Shonn Hironaga and Kaylan Young, third place and $300 cash prize.
