Michael Fisher hammered a match-high 27 kills as top-seeded Hawaii Baptist Academy battled past third-seeded Pahoa 25-20, 25-20, 25-23 to claim its third straight Hawaii High School Athletic Association Division II state boys volleyball title on Saturday night.
The final day of the state D-I and II tournaments was played at Neal Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu.
Perennial Interscholastic League of Honolulu D-II powerhouse HBA finished the season with a perfect 15-0 record. But the Eagles were pushed to the limit in each game by the Big Island Interscholastic Federation champion Daggers.
HBA’s Fisher had 27 kills in 64 attempts with eight errors, for a .297 hitting percentage. Teammate Micha Aweau followed with 11 kills in a dominant two-man attack. Setter BJ Hosaka had 37 assists.
Senior Nick Fisher led the Daggers with 10 kills and added 10 digs. Jarrett Kamaka had eight kills and Isaac Ekau six for hustling Pahoa. Setter Joseph Lefiti had 31 assists.
The Daggers had a 49-45 advantage in digs but the Eagles had four solo blocks — three by Michael Fisher — and eight block assists compared to Pahoa’s zero solo blocks and four block assists.
Pahoa, under head coach Wayne Bidal, finished the season with a 13-6 record.
The Daggers beat Ka’u 25-18, 25-19, 25-19 to pocket the BIIF title.
The state D-II tournament included eight teams while the state D-I tournament had 12 teams.
Top-seeded Punahou (17-2) played Kamehameha-Kapalama (17-3) in the state D-I championship match late Saturday night at Blaisdell.

Division I
• Fifth place: Kamehameha-Hawaii defeated Waiakea 25-18, 26-28, 17-15 in a hard-fought match. It was a reversal from the BIIF championship match when Waiakea pulled out a five-set thriller over the private-school Warriors.
On Saturday, junior Evan Enriques had a match-high 17 kills and Emmett Enriques (9) and Kaipo Woolsey (7) combined for 16 more to lead Kamehameha (15-2). Setter Shannon Kanakaole had a match-high 34 assists.
Junior Mamane Namahoe led Waiakea (13-4) with 18 kills and junior Dillon Rellez had 10. Seter Mano Thompson had 33 assists.
• Championship game: Punahou downed league rival Kamehameha-Oahu 25-19, 25-18, 21-25, 25-17 to repeat. Tui Tuileta led the way with 19 kills.
• Third place: Moanalua defeated Kaiser 25-2, 27-29, 22-20 with Tahiarri Caldwell leading the winners with 19 kills.
Casey Bolda led the Cougars (13-5) with 21 kills.
• Consolation: Kalaheo defeated McKinley 25-22, 22-25, 15-7. Silila Tucker led Kalaheo with 15 kills.
Meng Yuan Wu led the Tigers with 15 kills.
Division II
• Fifth place: Hawaii Preparatory Academy defeated Campbell 25-17, 25-21 as the Ka Makani closed out the state tournament on a high note.
Jevin Ching led HPA (13-4) with a match-high 17 kills. Nio Pouesi led Campbell with eight kills.
• Third place: Seabury Hall defeated Kauai 21-25, 26-24, 15-13 as Max DeLyon led the charge with 10 kills and 19 assists.Seabury Hall finished with a 15-3 record.
Mikal Moranz led Kauai (12-3) with eight kills while setter Marcus Carvalho had 19 assists.
