Gilbert “Mr. B” P. Benevides Sr., 83, of Hilo died May 7 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired water meter reader for Hawaii County’s Department of Water Supply, a retired sheet metal fabricator, a former game cock fighter, a U.S. Army Korean War veteran and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo and the Holy Name Society. Visitation will be held from 5-9 p.m. Monday at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo. Wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue from 8:30-10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.
