Yasumasa “Yasu” “Richard” Asato, 83, of Hawi died April 23 at his home. Born in Kohala, he was a retired truck driver for the former P.R.I., a retired employee of Takata Store, a member of the Hawi Jodo Mission and a former member of the Kohala Senior Citizens Softball Team. Private services to be held on Oahu at a later date. No flowers. Survived by sons, Rollins (Terri) Asato of Honolulu and Elgin (Wilma) Asato of Kohala; daughter, Maris (Christopher Saplad) Asato of Hilo; brothers, Yasuo “Buddy” (Diana) Asato and Edward K. (Sue) Asato, both of Honolulu, and Harry Y. Asato of California; sister, Mildred H. Nakata of Honolulu; brother-in-law, Tadashi “Rusty” Tamayose of Honolulu; four grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Mechelle Kehaulani DeLuz, 24, of Waikoloa died May 28 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hayward, Calif., she was a retail supervisor at Lamonts Gift store. Memorial service on June 15 at 8 a.m. at the Annunciation Catholic Church in Waimea; Burial service to follow at 10 a.m., followed by private inurnment. Luncheon at the Kahilu Town Hall located behind the Parker Ranch Shopping Center. Casual attire. Survived by daughter, Kalia Cazimero of Waikoloa; parents, Jim and Bernadette DeLuz of Waikoloa; brothers, Joshua DeLuz and Josiah DeLuz, both of Waikoloa; paternal grandparents, Jacinth and Yvonne DeLuz of Waimea; maternal grandmother, Trinidad (Tony) Lizama of Yigo, Guam; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Gilbert S. Garcia, 85, of Hilo died May 26. Born in Honolulu, he retired as a Merchant Marine. Funeral services to be held at Crossnet Ministries-City of Joy on Friday. Visitation at 10 a.m., service at 11:30 a.m., and lunch at 1 p.m., followed by cremation at Borthwick Hawaii Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Survived by wife, Eleanor Garcia of Hilo; sons, Gilbert (Dallas) Garcia of Waianae, Oahu, John (Erwin) Hernandez of Kailua, Frank (Bobby) Figueroa of Hawaii Island; daughters, Maria (Joe) Kaneakoa of Waimanalu, Oahu, Esther (Raymond) Palimoo, Oahu, of Ewa Beach, Oahu, Cynthia (Clarence) Ng of Hawaii Island, Linda (Keala) Oducado of Hawaii Island, Dolores (Justo) Ortiz of Puerto Rico, Lydia (Elliot) Neopolitan of California, Martha (Bruce) Wilbourn of California, Patricia (Wilford) Ortiz of Hawaii Island; 69 grandchildren; 98 great-grandchildren; 54 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Jutta Haleamau, 66, of Hilo died Monday, May 27, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Berlin, Germany, she was a personal assistant for Easter Seals Hawaii. Private services held. Laura Medeiros Silva, 91, of Honokaa died May 22, at her residence. Born in Hamakua, she was a private home housekeeper for the Mona Homes and the Kona Tiki. She also was a member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa. Friends may call from 5-9 p.m.; Prayer service at 6 p.m. Graveside service to be held Saturday, June 15, at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 at 10 a.m. Casual attire. Survived by husband, Abraham G.
