A bill before the Hawaii County Council to restrict the use of genetically modified crops will be the subject of a meeting next week held by GMO Free Hawaii Island.
The meeting, from 7-9 p.m. Monday at the University of Hawaii at Hilo’s Science and Technology Building, Room 108, will feature a presentation from Hawaii County Councilwoman Margaret Wille and Hector Valenzuela, a vegetable crops extension specialist with UH-Manoa.
The meeting is open to the public.
GMO Free Hawaii Island, a coalition of isle residents concerned about genetically modified food, will also provide a short presentation and movie before the speakers begin.
The legislation under discussion is Bill 79.
