The familiar holiday sights and sounds of The Salvation Army’s red kettles and bell ringers will be making a special out-of-season appearance at the Hilo Walmart on Tuesday, June 25, in observance of LEON Day.
The familiar holiday sights and sounds of The Salvation Army’s red kettles and bell ringers will be making a special out-of-season appearance at the Hilo Walmart on Tuesday, June 25, in observance of LEON Day.
“It’s about six months until Christmas and we’re using LEON Day — that’s NOEL spelled backwards — to remind Hawaii that there is a need for funds throughout the year to assist our local communities and families,” said Maj. John Chamness, divisional commander of The Salvation Army of Hawaii. “Most folks don’t realize that one out of every 10 residents in Hawaii is touched by The Salvation Army’s compassionate community work each year.
“We encourage everyone in Hawaii to help us fill our red kettles and support their local community on LEON Day!”
In addition to being outside the Hilo Walmart, red kettles will be stationed across Oahu that day.
The Salvation Army of Hawaii offers a wide variety of programs throughout the islands including: adult day health services; affordable senior housing; at-risk youth services and housing; camp & conference center; family stores; food distribution and feeding programs; homeless services; The Kroc Center – Hawaii’s largest community center; preschools and day care services; social services – emergency assistance; substance abuse treatment; and work therapy and rehabilitation services.
