Pepper spray sends 15 Oahu children to hospital
HONOLULU (AP) — Fifteen children are recuperating at three Honolulu hospitals after someone released pepper spray inside a gym where they were participating in a summer recreation program.
Honolulu Emergency Medical Services spokeswoman Shayne Enright says paramedics used three ambulances to take the children to the hospitals from Palolo Valley District Park Friday morning.
Enright says the children are all in stable condition. She says they were taken to hospitals to be checked out as a precautionary measure.
Enright says a child apparently released pepper spray into the elementary school-aged group.
Honolulu police spokeswoman Michelle Yu says police officers were making a presentation to the children at the time.
She says the pepper spray didn’t belong to the police.
