Everyone on the Hawaii Stars had a base hit and scored a run in a 21-4 win over the Santa Rosa Rosebuds in an interleague baseball game on Saturday night at Wong Stadium.
After the Stars scored 10 runs in the seventh inning, it started to rain and both teams agreed to end the ballgame.
The Rosebuds, a semi-pro team from San Francisco, committed seven errors, which led to 15 unearned runs. Joe Wittig pitched 4 2/3 innings in the loss. He gave up 11 runs (only three earned) on eight hits and five walks. Nicholas Trujillo was next and allowed 10 runs (only three earned) on nine hits and one walk.
Brenden Davis had the most productive day among the Stars. He batted 2 for 4 with four RBIs to lead Hawaii’s 17-hit attack. Matt Hibbert went 3 for 4, and Marshall McDonald 3 for 5 with two RBIs while Dustin Smith, Katsuaki Furuki and Tyler Krobetzky each paired hits.
Andrew Preimesberger pitched five innings of four-run ball for the win. He yielded eight hits, walked none, and struck out three. Michael Kenui finished with two scoreless innings, whiffing three.
Jerrod Dumont batted 3 for 3 with four RBIs, and VJ Ambroselli went 2 for 3 to lead Santa Rosa.
Hawaii scored five runs in the third and fifth innings and one in the fourth. The Stars compiled 10 hits in the seventh, when McDonald had an RBI single and a two-run double to highlight the inning.
Cortney Arruda (1-2, 3.85 ERA) is scheduled to start for Hawaii in the series finale at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Wong.
Then the Stars (11-12) take a 12-game road trip, starting Tuesday against the first-place San Rafael Pacifics (15-5).
