A very special mahalo to the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin Buddhist Women Association, whose members support Life Care Center of Hilo by visiting residents year round and periodically making special donations of handmade items. Recently, this group donated 32 lap blankets, 20 wheelchair bags and five walker bags.

The bright colors of these donated items will help to add a personal touch to the nursing home. Homemade items always help to bring a home-like atmosphere to the facility. When Residents see these new items they admire the handiwork and reminisce about how their parents and grandparents used to make beautiful homemade items that were treasured during their life.

When a staff utilizes a new, brightly colored blanket the staff person feels special and can see a transformation of a quiet elder become more alert and connected.

This wonderful group has dedicated their time and talents in selfless giving for many years.

Thank you for remembering our honored elderly.

Chris Ridley,

Director of social services
