A 10-week class featuring classic dramatic films will be held at the Institute for Astronomy at 640 N. Auhoku Place in Hilo beginning Friday.
A 10-week class featuring classic dramatic films will be held at the Institute for Astronomy at 640 N. Auhoku Place in Hilo beginning Friday.
Each 1 p.m. session will feature a different film. Information about the film, its cast and director is given first. Suggested focus issues are also pointed out. Following the showing of the film, a discussion by class members is held.
The series will begin with a showing of “To Kill A Mockingbird,” starring Gregory Peck as an attorney in a small southern town defending a black man accused of raping a white woman. Seen through the eyes of a child, the film examines the racism in the not-too-distant past as well as the wisdom and goodness of other characters.
The last film in the series will be “Casablanca,” starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman as lovers reunited in wartime. Suspense, romance and humor abound in this film.
