Receiving the Hawaii Rotary Youth Foundation Scholarships (HRYC) for 2013 are: Christina Chow, Keaau High School, who will attend Weber State University; Paul Gagorik, Hilo High, Loyola Marymount University; Caitlyn Kuntemeyer, Waiakea High, Azusa Pacific University; Gina McGuire, Kamehameha School-Hawaii, Stanford University, and Owen Sandstrom, Waiakea High, who will attend the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
The late Rotarian Maurice J. “Sully” Sullivan, because of his desire to help Hawaii high school graduates realize their full potential by attending a college or university, founded the scholarship foundation in 1976. An applicant must be a U.S. citizen and a legal resident of Hawaii.
The first scholarship was awarded in 1977. As of March, HRYF had awarded 1,515 scholarships worth a total of $5.4 million.
Criteria for selection are achievement, scholarship and financial need, along with involvement in campus and community activities and employment experience.
