Hilo’s Shon Katahira fired a 1-over 73 on Wednesday to pull away and win his division at the King Auto Group state junior golf championships at the Club at Hokulia.
Katahira, who trailed by a stroke entering the second round for players ages 13-14, finished at 3-over 147 to win the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association event by six strokes.
Including his 74 in the opening round, Katahira turned in the second- and third-best rounds of the tournament. Justin Arcano of Wailuku, Maui, shot par on Tuesday and wound up fourth at 12-over.
