Herbert “Richard” aka “Da Bread Man” Cardoza, 78, of Ookala died Tuesday, July 2, at the North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Hilo, he was a heavy equipment operator for the state of Hawaii and a rancher; He also was known for making sweet bread, milk bread and mango pickle. He also was a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Papaaloa and a Hawaii Army National Guard veteran. Friends may call Monday at Dodo Mortuary Chapel; Visitation from 5-9 p.m.; Prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Cremation to follow at Dodo Mortuary Crematory. Friends may call on Saturday, July 20, at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Papaaloa; Visitation from 8:30-10 a.m.; Celebration of Mass at 10 a.m. Casual attire. William “Willie” John Daum, 63, of Kailua-Kona died July 6. Born in Oregon, he was a Vietnam Army veteran, a radio broadcaster and a screener for the TSA. Survived by sister, Linda Wilson of Bolingbrook, Ill., and many friends. Friends are welcome 1-4 p.m. Thursday for viewing at A Hui Hou Funeral Home, with burial scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday at the West Hawaii Veteran’s Cemetery with full military honors. Miles Akana Pomaika‘i Kahaloa, 57, of Honolulu died June 25 at home. Born in Hilo, he worked in the insurance industry, and was a musician. Services held. Survived by daughter, Kirstin Kahaloa and son Aaron (Jessie) Kahaloa; spouse, Kari Westly Waldhaus; sisters, Valerie Badon, Kathryn LaRoche, Lorna Shanks and Leeona Kekua; and two grandchildren.

George Henry Kelly, 68, of Pahoa died Friday, July 5, at his home, surrounded by family and friends. Born in Great Falls, Mont., he was a retired veteran for the U.S. Marine Corps and a commander for the The Veterans of Foreign Wars/USA. Urn committal services to be held Friday at 9 a.m. at the Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2, followed by memorial service at Puna Baptist Church in Pahoa at 11 a.m. Celebration of Life to follow at VFW (Veteran of Foreign Wars) Post 3830. William Tadao Sugiyama, 79, formerly of Hilo, died May 5 at his home in Columbia, Md. He worked for the Washington Post for 38 years as a printer. Services held. Donations in his honor may be made to Randy Sugiyama scholarship fund, or the Class of 59ers at Gallaudet University. Survived by wife, Peggy Sugiyama; daughter, Lucy Sugiyama; sisters, Ruth Kuniyuki of California, Mary Urashima of California, Janice Fujishima of California, and June Shimizu of Missouri; and three grandchildren.

Patrick “Pat” Sueo Yamura, 42, of Hawi died July 5 at Kohala Hospital. Born in Honolulu, he was a lead service agent for Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel, a former key attendant for Hilton Waikoloa Village and a cook for the former Kohala Inn Restaurant. Private service to be held. Survived by wife, Luana Yamura; daughter, Keiko Yamura; son, Gabby Yamura, all of Hawi; step-daughters, Liana Hayes of Hilo, Leysha Stanley of Hawi; mother, Edwina Yamura of Halaula; brothers, Rodney Yamura of Halaula, Randy (Lisa) Yamura of Honolulu; sister, Colleen (Brannon) Coito of Hawi; numerous nieces and nephews.
